Colonel Rogers

May 20th, 1862

After witnessing Col. Samuel St. George Rogers of the 2nd Florida Infantry, during the battle of Williamsburg, a fellow officer wrote this excerpt from a letter to his mother:

"Colonel Rogers is a gallant and brave officer and it is a most ungrateful thing in our not electing him Colonel of this Regiment. Cousin Mack, Eb and myself were the only ones in the Company that voted for him." -Captain D.E. Maxwell, Company D of the 1st Florida Cavalry
